About The Wealthster

Welcome to my blog which aims to be a resource to those looking to achieve Financial Independence Retire Early in the UK or FIRE UK for short. I provide my insights and share my experience, and mistakes, so you can learn how to achieve FIRE yourself.

About Me

I am a 39-year-old male, living in London, UK. I live with my lovely Aussie wife who is actually more frugal than I am. She is naturally frugal, whereas I’ve had to teach myself how!

I worked in construction project management for many years, but now work as an expert witness in court cases. I’m a chartered civil engineer by trade and have built everything from underground stations under cities, airports in the desert, roads in the countryside and residential blocks. I also studied law in my spare time and qualified as a barrister (lawyer). I try to keep myself busy but its all dreadfully hard work.

Outside of work I love drinking coffee, craft beers and socialising. I’m a bit of a cyclist and try to keep fit with HIIT workouts. I also love the mountains and do hiking and skiing. I’m also a rugby fan and for some reason enjoy supporting Scotland. I must be a glutton for punishment.

Cooking has become a big part of my life and I really like to cook curry!

I have been reading a lot about the FIRE movement since I came across it in September 2018, and I have started to dabble in the philosophy a bit. There are a great many resources out there, and many are extremely useful. The main thing about these resources is they are very US-focused. As I live in London in the UK, I decided that it may be helpful to document my experiences with using FIRE in a UK context.

Financial Independence Retire Early in the UK

I started my blog mainly to hold myself accountable and as I wanted to have a UK orientated FIRE blog. At the time, I didn’t realise there are many other great FIRE bloggers in the UK. However, thankfully it seems I was wrong – I’ve been delighted to find other UK bloggers, but I still wish to share my progress and any wisdom I encounter.

I want to remain anonymous so that I may share real figures with you without fear (of what I do not know!). I may one day reveal myself but for now, you will have to make do with my nice logo instead of a photo of me.

There we have it. Welcome to my take on Financial Independence, Retire Early in the UK.
