July 2025 update – Crazy month but in a good way

Life update

After an activity strewn month, I am writing this quite exhausted.  Too many things have happened this month and I’m worn out.

Our fertility treatment took place this month and it was an emotional and stressful time for us.   It really is a miracle that the technology and procedures exist to allow this to take place.  So many things to take into account and so many variables. We can’t allow ourselves to get too excited for obvious reasons but we are now feeling like we can move on with our lives and start a family.

Another crazy thing happened this week too.  The founder and previous owner of my previous company called me up and asked if I wanted to go into business with him.  He is going to offer me some equity in the firm.  I really can’t believe this happened let alone the same weekend as the news of the pregnancy.  It is just so overwhelming, but I think I’m probably going to take him up on his offer.  He sold his company recently and the previous partners made huge sums.

Almost as an aside, our finances were in great shape.  The markets continued their rise and pushed us over the £800k net worth barrier.  I also noticed that in USD we are millionaires.  I didn’t even notice this happening so that is also cause for celebration!

I also managed to squeeze in a trip to Dartmoor with some old friends.  We did a two day trek and exercised our recently won right to wild camp on the moor.  It was a bit wet and a long 39km walk, but was so much fun.

What a month.  Probably and hopefully one of the most life changing months of my life.

Investments

The markets continued to hit all-time highs this month.

Net worth was up from £783k in June to £800k (+£17k) at the end of July.   This was thanks to the markets climbing again.

The joint FI fund has reached £567k, up (£16k).

Spending

Spending was very high this month as it included the final payment for the fertility treatment.  We have paid about £16k for this, which included the cost of medication, procedures, scans and appointments.  Now that it has been successful, it seems like a bargain.

We did seem to eat out a fair bit more than normal this month too but we only spent about £100 more than normal so it wasn’t that bad.  The trip away to Dartmoor also was costly as I had to buy so much camping gear as all my stuff was done in.

I spent £200 on a new backpack and about £150 on sleeping bags and other stuff like water proof trousers.  All essential and things I’m very glad I bought when the heavens opened.

Savings rate somehow was 5% still.

Conclusion

All in July 2025 will probably be remembered as the month that our lives changed forever.  Fingers crossed the stars align and allow us to move forwards.
