The beatings will continue until morale improves – January 2022 update

After a fantastic start to the year of our Lord 2022 (mainly because I was chilling in Australia) we had a rude awakening upon our return to London.  First, there was the rampant Covid outbreak still going on in London.  Second the utterly dreary weather and long nights, and third the stock market took a plunge.  As I had been on holiday, I’d left £2000 in my S&S ISA account ready to invest because I was idle about investing it. Upon being paid on 10 January, I plonked another £3000 into my ISA and duly purchased £5000 of VUSA the … Continue reading The beatings will continue until morale improves – January 2022 update

What is wealthy?

What makes someone wealthy?  It is a question that I thought I knew the answer to until my trip to Australia.  The experiences we had out there have shown me that my ideas of what constituted wealthy were somewhat under whelming.  We’ve all heard of the vast fortunes of Gates, Bezos, and Musk, but that’s not what this post is about.  This is about the wealthy people hiding in plain sight.  The people that run companies, own businesses, and generally don’t want people to know how much they have. We had the pleasure of being invited to Ms Wealthster’s sister’s … Continue reading What is wealthy?

December 2021 update

I write to you from the warm sunny climate of Melbourne.  It’s certainly an improvement upon the dreary, wet, covid infested shores of the UK.  Even being here is an achievement. First, we had to obtain an exemption for me to travel.  That could only be obtained if you counted as a family member of an Aussie citizen or permanent resident.  Luckily, Ms Wealthster is (a) Aussie and (b) has some training in migration law so knew what we needed to prove that I was a defacto partner of her.  I also had to apply for an e-visitor visa before … Continue reading December 2021 update

The constant battle to stay in control – my battle with my love of cars!

It has been said that we are our own worst enemy.  There are certain things that we do that are self-destructive or not in our best interests.  I’ve done more than my fair share of self-destructive behaviours to that effect.  They have ranged from dating toxic people, spending far too much money, and drinking too much. Alarmingly, over the last few months, I’ve noticed another issue popping up.  I’ve become obsessed with wanting to own a car. Those who avidly read this blog will undoubtedly know that I am a petrol head and love cars for the engineering beauty (I’m … Continue reading The constant battle to stay in control – my battle with my love of cars!

End of August update

August in the UK was a long month for me.  Work was very quiet, and the days did seem to drag somewhat.  It finished on a high with the Bank Holiday weekend where we hosted some friends for the first time since 2020.  What a good laugh. As we are clearly creeping into September, I will mention that I was in Scotland last week for a wedding and to catch up with some family and friends.  I’m enjoying working from home as I can got up to Scotland on Thursday night, work Friday, and then have a proper weekend.  This … Continue reading End of August update

July end of month update

The month has passed fairly quickly.  I had a few deadlines at work which focused my mind. I also had a few good weekends catching up with friends following my receipt of the second Pfizer dose.  I had been very careful about going out and about as several of my friends had got Covid after getting the first dose of the vaccine. Having already had it I did not fancy running through that again so I stayed in and worked from home. My partner also got pinged on Freedumb day which was ironic. She dutifully stayed in for a further … Continue reading July end of month update
